_{[Would Michael even help stop someone from killing the rest of his vessels? He hasn't stepped in before, and obviously hadn't stepped in to help Dean this time. He'd crossed Adam's mind, just for a flicker of a second as someone who might have an interest in interfering, but both Michael and Lucifer are the greater of two evils. They could do so much worse.

They had done worse.

Castiel's selection hadn't been random, as a matter of course. Out of anyone who could make a quick fix happen, Adam had thought of the one angel who seemed to have a thing for pulling the Winchesters' asses out of the fire.]}

... Do you know how many they've killed so far?

_{[Adam hadn't planned to ask, and the question is slow, almost halting. Could it be the same person who'd killed Clarisse, the demi-god?]}

[It's true that little else would inspire Castiel as much as Dean's death. Granted, he won't be the only one trying to hunt this killer down, which means that whoever it is will no doubt go to great effort to stay hidden.

Adam brings up a good point with that question, though. If this person is the same one who carried out the other murders, then it stands to reason they'll slip up eventually.

His mouth twists downward and he sighs into the receiver.]

I know of two other unexplained murders, but I couldn't say with confidence that it's the same person.

[It would be easier if it was, as then they'd only have to track down one person, not two or three.]

_{[All right, well... Angels don't make good homicide detectives, he'll add that to the list of things he's starting to learn about them. If not even one of God's finest knows, there's not much Adam can do.

Anything he could do to learn more might just help turn him into a walking target.]}

So we don't know. Can't blame a guy for trying.

_{[Adam would be lying if he said he wasn't disappointed, but he's also aware that Castiel probably hadn't had his eyes peeled until Dean had bit the dust. It's been a long shot.]}

_{[He hadn't really relished the idea of trying to track the angel down if he hadn't felt like answering Wonderland's standard issue phone. Adam appreciates that much.]}

[Castiel's as frustrated about his impotence here as Adam must be. If there was a way for him to somehow surmise who had been killed simply by studying the bodies, he would have gotten to the bottom of this a long time ago.

He may not know the two other victims, but that doesn't mean that the murdering should have been allowed to continue. Enough's enough.

Before Adam can hang up, Castiel interjects with one last tidbit of information.]

John Blake -- do you know him? He's been on the investigation team. He has experience with it from his home. He would be good resource.

[If Adam's decided he wants to be a part of this process, Castiel won't turn him away. But in this case, he may not be the best person to consult, so better to turn him to someone else.]

Blake?

_{[Not "John," being a little too much like an absent father Adam doesn't like to think about, but "Blake." He's surprised, but maybe he shouldn't be.

Yeah, Adam knows him. Knows him better than the lifeless corpse Lucifer had been showing off on the network, even.]}

... Who's this "investigation team"?

I don't know all of those involved, but Blake is one of the principle members. There are at least two others working with him.

[Castiel hasn't been directly involved, and he regrets that now. Though if any of them had actually uncovered anything, no doubt the news would have spread by now.

Still, Blake's bound to know more about the details of the deaths than Castiel himself, so he would be worth speaking to.]

_{[Then maybe he'll have to ask Blake if he feels like diving headfirst down this rabbit hole. He can definitely talk to Blake easier than most of Dean's friends and family; Blake's one of the few people who's juggled having the pedigree Winchesters and the bastard version in his little black book at the same time.
